![]() ![]() Minetest Modding Book by rubenwardy with editing by Shara. The official Lua API documentation can be found at lua_api.txt or in HTML format here. Mods are written in the scripting language Lua. To manually install content for Minetest see also Installing Mods and Installing Client-Side Mods. ![]() Starting with Mintest version 5.0.0 mods can be installed using the Content tab in the Minetest launcher. They can be installed from the main menu by going to the Content tab and clicking on the Browse online content button.įor old or experimental mods, check the Mods subforum. Generally, all mods you would want are available on ContentDB nowadays. Please note that the API is currently not stable and can change. Client-Side mods require at least Minetest 0.4.15-dev from sources, compiled after April 1st, 2017. Client-Side Mods can be used when connected to a Minetest server because they are loaded locally. Individual mods in a modpack can still be enabled and disabled as if they were standalone mods.Ī Client-Side Mod (short: “CSM”) is a mod used to customize your Minetest client. Apart from that, there is nothing special about modpacks or mods inside a modpack. The main difference is that they will be displayed as a openable blue text item in the minetest mod selector containing the component mods to allow granular control. It's purely a logical grouping and is done mostly for convenience and to group closely-related mods together. Basically, a modpack is just special directory containing the actual mod directories. \.A modpack (short: “MP”) is a collection of mods to group them together. Pick a location \((x,y)\) in the base of the solid in the \(xy\)-plane, which is the triangular region bounded by \(x=0\), \(y=0\), and \(y=40-2x\). We can keep a running total of the blocks by iterating over the region for example: This is how I introduce triple integrals in my Calculus III course:Ībove, the volume of the tetrahedron in the first octant bounded above by the plane \(2x + y + z = 40\) can be thought of as the sum of many small blocks that fill the solid region. ![]() In rectangular coordinates, \(dV = dx \, dy \, dz\) is the volume of a "very small" block. That is, the total volume of a solid is the sum of infinitesimally small volumes. The volume of a solid region \(E\) in space can be expressed abstractly as Here are some ways I've used the MathPlot mod in educational settings. See the MathPlot project wiki for documentation and examples.įor a further summary and information about my use of Minetest in the mathematics classroom, please see this preprint for a submitted publication. I also implemented a similar a activity for Rose-Hulman's Sonia Math Day. So far, I've used this mod to explain triple integrals in Calculus III lectures, and I have piloted its use on a small scale with a class of Calculus III students (Fall 2019) with a last-day-of-class activity. I have authored the MathPlot mod for this purpose. When I learned about Minetest and its modding API, I quickly discovered its potential for systematically generating (large!) structures in the three-dimensional world based on mathematical formulas. True to the spirit of open-source software, one can study the code of existing mods and mimic their functionality. It is designed to be modded easily, with a flexible and well-documented lua API. I was especially drawn to it for its Linux support. It is open-source, free to download / redistribute, and runs on a variety of operating systems. I am excited about using this game as an educational tool, as it possesses some very important qualities: Minetest is an open-source voxel game similar to Minecraft. ![]()
